NT-SDF Overview |
|
The National Treasury Secure Data Facility (NT-SDF) provides researchers with de-identified tax data for research. South Africa is one of only a few countries globally to grant access to this type of data for research purposes. This is a unique opportunity as access to national administrative data for researchers outside of senior officials is rarely granted. Details on how to access the NT-SDF can be found as part of the FAQs in the Contact Us tab below
Established through collaboration between the National Treasury (NT), United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER) and the South African Revenue Service (SARS), the NT-SDF stands out as a unique contribution to the broader research landscape.
The administrative data plays a central part in the South Africa - Toward Inclusive Economic Development (SA-TIED) programme as well as research internal to NT, both of which aim to inform policy formulation through evidence-based research. The success of the NT-SDF has encouraged other African countries to establish similar facilities to leverage data-driven insights using administration data.
