Committee of 10 (C10) Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors
The C10 was formed to consider and develop an African response to the global financial crisis after a meeting of African finance ministers and central bank governors in Tunis in November 2008.
It was convened by the heads of the African Development Bank, African Union Commission and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. The committee comprises the Finance Ministers of South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Cameroon and Tanzania. The central bank governors on the committee represent Botswana, Kenya, Algeria, West African States and Central African states.
The first meeting of the committee was held in Cape Town on 16 January 2009, and subsequent meetings have been held in Dar es Salaam (2009), Abuja (2009) and Cape Town (2010). These meetings have covered topics including the G20 agenda and identified priority issues for Africa, the role of financial regulations, and voice and representation in international financial institutions.
Outcomes include an agreed upon initial response to be fed into the G20, developing a forward work programme and opportunities to present African views and identifying and commissioning additional information and analysis.
South Africa is the current chair of the C10, supported by Egypt as deputy chair. The next meeting of the C10 is expected to take place late September – early October 2010.
